Holiday Snap by Michael Pertwee and John Chapman.22nd - 25th July 2009 at Tynemouth Priory Theatre.
Directed by Chris Johnson.
Holiday Snap is a good old traditional British farce by two masters of the genre which was well received by our audiences. This tale of comic predicament and mistaken identity unfolds with real wit and style.
A Portuguese time-share villa has been inadvertently double-booked, unknown to the company Rep Commander "Chitto" Chittenden, who is short-sighted, not afraid of the odd drink and is not overburdened with brains.
A young unmarried couple, Leslie and Eve, are the first to arrive. Mary and Henry arrive shortly after Eve and Leslie and each couple mistakes the other for the two absent domestic Portuguese staff, Pedro and Maria.
When the couples realise that they both have booked the villa for the same week, the pompous Henry thinks he has the moral high ground as he discovers that Eve is married, but not to Leslie and he claims supremacy over the apartment because they booked first.
Chitto the tipsy travel rep can't tell one couple from the other and manages to remain unaware that there is more than one couple on the scene.
The situation gets even more complicated when Henry's mother-in-law Celia arrives and Henry has to bribe the other couple to impersonate his alibi - his friend and golfing partner Sir Piers (Perky) and Lady Marchbanks. Henry's girlfriend, has to play the servant, much to her annoyance but it looks as though things might work out until the real Sir Piers arrives and finally Henry's wife Kit also turns up!
And in the middle of it all, the travel rep, Commander 'Chitto' Chittenden tries to keep order but only sinks further into alcoholic confusion and believe me, if you'd found yourself in a situation like his, you'd turn to drink too.
