Running at The Tynemouth Priory Theatre from the 22nd - 25th July 2009.
Holiday Snap by Michael Pertwee and John Chapman.
This tale of comic predicament and mistaken identity unfolds with real wit and style. In a nutshell, the play revolves around a timeshare apartment in Portugal, owned by Share-a-lux, which has inadvertently been double-booked to two different parties unknown to the eccentric myopic (short-sighted) company Rep Commander "Chitto" Chittenden - not afraid of the odd drink and not overburdened with brains (he could not run a bath, never mind this side of the operation) and the more complicated and strange things get, the more old Chitto struggles to keep up.
Unmarried couple Leslie and Eve are the first to arrive but their number seems to be up when the Charlesworth's - Henry and Mary turn up shortly after Eve and Leslie and claim supremacy over the apartment because they booked first. The confusion is compounded when Chitto does not realize that there is more than one couple around and each couple mistakes the other for the Portuguese hired in help.
Henry seems to have the upper hand as he discovers that Eve is married, but not to Leslie. The situation gets even more complicated when Henry's mother-in-law Celia drops in unexpectedly, forcing Henry to admit he's not actually married to Mary at all but to Kit.
We engage in an elaborate game of bluff involving golf, two absent domestic staff in Pedro and Maria, some Hungarian and Sir Piers. Henry has to bribe the other couple to impersonate his alibi, Sir Piers and Lady Marchbanks. Henry's girlfriend has to play the servant much to her annoyance, but it looks as though things might work out until his friend and golfing partner, the real Sir Piers arrives, followed by Kit his wife! However, the final hilarious disguises donned by Mary, Piers, Eve and Leslie might just save the day!
