Those fortunate enough to see the summer 2007 production of Fawlty Towers, know that Whitley Bay Theatre Company perform comedies exceedingly well. Their next project is a Ray Cooney comedy 'Run for your Wife'. Cooney, one of Britain's most successful playwrights, has had 17 plays staged at the West End, including Funny Money and Caught in the Net.
Run for your Wife is a hilarious play, set in London, following the trials and tribulations of John Smith. John is a taxi driver who is happily married to Mary Smith in Wimbledon, and at the same time, happily married to Barbara Smith in Streatham! Only a tight schedule enables John to maintain his double life and keep his bigamy a secret. Unfortunately his careful planning is disrupted when he gets involved trying to save an old lady from two muggers, and gets mild concussion.
From there develops an evening of manic humour as John desperately attempts to avoid arrest and most importantly - discovery by his wives! John's Wimbledon neighbour, Stanley, becomes embroiled in the situation and ends up making the whole thing even worse, with them both trying to right the wrongs that get increasingly out of hand. With two policemen hot on the case, a reporter about to blow the lid, and a very camp upstairs neighbour with DIY difficulties, will John keep his two wives from learning the truth?!
This show is not to be missed, as this crowd-pleaser is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud!
