See How They Run - a hilarious farce by Philip King.
Directed by Elizabeth Purcell
on 21st - 24th November 2007 at The Priory Theatre - Tynemouth.
It is 1942 and World War II is in full swing with the countryside beset with fears of invasion and prisoners of war. Merton-cum-middlewick is a small sleepy town buried in the beautiful rolling English countryside. As with most small sleepy villages - the local church is the heart and soul of the communtiy. Where there's a village - there's a church. Where there's a church - there is a vicar and his vicarage. Put all of these factors together and you are bound to get the village gossip popping up from time to time.....
As well as a great script with fast and clever dialogue, there's plenty of good farce: physical comedy, people swapping clothes, fainting, running around in circles in their underwear and of course mistaken identities.
This play provided the inspiration for the wonderful TV comedy "Dad's Army".
